Hi friends! My name is Katie, otherwise known as the “Lifting Librarian.” Yes, I’am actually a librarian now. I’m not just in school. I have the title and credentials and everything to go with it.
I currently have two jobs involving library things–I’m the Manuscript Metadata and Quality Assurance Assistant at the Princeton Theological Seminary Library and I’m also a Librarian for the Monmouth County Public Library System.
If you follow me on social media, you’ll see that I often post about my pelvic floor. In August of 2016, my pelvic floor gave out, leaving me confused as to what was happening with my body. It wasn’t until I found my physical therapist, Tamra Wroblesky, co-founder of Inner Dynamics Physical Therapy (ask me about it), that I knew what was going on. What had happened was that I was sitting at a really low body weight–47.5–and lifting heavy daily. I didn’t have the body weight to support muscle growth, the proper muscular development imperative to weightlifting, the core strength, or the technique to perform the lifts safely. This is was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
I’d always had a weak pelvic floor, I peed my pants running track when I was 14, I peed during double unders and box jumps. Later, when I transitioned to weightlifting, daily, I’d pee in heavy cleans and front squats. It’s not OK, don’t ever let someone tell you it is, but without all the dysfunction, I’d have never met my coach, Michael McKenna and Tamra, my PT. These guys work together to figure out what works best for me. And for that, I am so thankful.
I hope you enjoy all the new things you’ll read here. My goal, really, is to promote the things that are really close to my heart, reading and lifting, and to spread some pelvic floor awareness by sharing my thoughts and experiences.
Enjoy, folks!
